Book Launch Assets and Budget: A Practical Scope for Authors

Ask for the audience, campaign objectives, assets, channels, responsibilities, service fees and any separate media budget.

What should a launch campaign quote cover?

Ask for the audience, campaign objectives, assets, channels, responsibilities, service fees and any separate media budget. A launch quote should explain what will be ready before promotion starts and how the activity will be reviewed. A target publication date alone does not define the marketing work, and a campaign cannot guarantee purchases or bestseller status.

Build an asset list before choosing channels

List the cover, book description, author photo, biography, retailer links, website pages and promotional materials you expect to use. Mark each item as ready, in progress or missing. Ask which items the marketing provider creates and which you supply. If an asset needs an approval or outside delivery, record the dependency so the proposed launch sequence reflects actual readiness.

Connect the budget to specific work

Separate strategy, creative production, management and paid placements where relevant. Ask how the budget changes if the asset list or release window changes. Clarify who authorizes additional spending and who controls the advertising accounts. This gives you a practical basis for comparing proposals instead of comparing a bundle of channel names that may contain very different amounts of work.

Choose review points the author can use

Agree how progress will be communicated before launch and how available campaign data will be reviewed afterwards. Completed assets, outreach activity, visits and purchases measure different things. Ask what the provider can observe and what remains outside its reporting. A review should help identify the next action rather than simply present a large activity count without context.

Start with a launch brief

Share the genre, intended readers, release status, expected launch window and existing author audience. Identify the assets already available and your proposed budget range. American Publishing Club can discuss a launch scope and related website or content work based on those details. Ask for a written sequence of deliverables and responsibilities before approving the campaign.
